Newly released surveillance video in the shooting of former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz shows a meeting between suspects in two cars and the accused motorcycle driver, according to a report.
The video provided by Dominican Republic authorities shows the brief meeting before Eddy Vladimir Feliz García rides his motorbike toward the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo, where Big Papi was shot, CBS News reported.
Police said they have detained six people in Sunday’s attempted slaying, including the accused shooter, 25-year-old Rolfi Ferreira Cruz, and García.
Also in custody are Joel Rodríguez de la Cruz — nicknamed “Squidward” after the “SpongeBob SquarePants” character — Porfirio Ayendi Dechamps Vásquez, Reynaldo Rodríguez Valenzuela and Oliver Moisés Mirabal Acosta, authorities said.
The would-be assassins were offered about $7,800 to carry out the hit on the perennial All-Star, who underwent surgery in Santo Domingo and later was flown to Boston for treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital.
“We don’t have a motive yet, but we are going to work without rest until the investigation is complete,” Dominican National Police Director Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte said Wednesday.
